Girls on the Run

A wonderful, international program continues in the community of Lawton!  Girls on the Run® and Girls on Track® are structured educational programs that use training for a celebration run as a means to teach essential life skills.  GOTR is for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade girls, and GOT is the middle school component. Over a period of ten (10) weeks, teams meet with trained coaches after school twice a week for fun workouts combined with life lessons such as goal-setting and decision-making. Throughout the weeks, the girls train and prepare for a 3.1 mile (5K) run that builds self-esteem and pride. The goals of the program are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development in young girls.  Want to get involved?  Here’s how:

Donate!

This year over 500 girls from Van Buren and Cass counties will be participating in GOTR/GOT.  These programs are able to exist and expand thanks to wonderful community partners.  The tuition for one student is $100.  This covers the training materials, snacks, a pair of Asics® running shoes and entry into the 5K Celebration Run.  Monetary donations are used for scholarships to ensure that every girl who wishes to join may do so.  There are levels of sponsorship for businesses that will be recognized and publicized at the celebration event.
